The system came in, and so, I threw Suzaku Ibun in. Here's a few thoughts on the game thusfar (I might edit this entry later, so be sure to check back)!
I ordered the special edition, which was actually pretty nifty. It came with the Suzaku Bonus Drama CD and a mini-artbook with tons of character designs. Haven't listened to (or ripped!) the Suzaku CD yet, but I'll try and do that soon. I also received the special preorder Seiryuu Drama CD, which was amusing simply for the Amiboshi/Soi banter. The acting on the CDs was top-notch, and so far the game has been pretty well-voiced, too. Those of you who were worried about the new voice cast shouldn't be worried at all. It's taking some adjusting (I was used to the original Japanese cast), but you can tell they put a lot of effort and thought into their characters.
The two priestesses are Madoka (Suzaku) and Misaki (Seiryuu). Madoka's studying for her entrance exams at the beginning of the game, and she and Misaki are studying English at the National Library (quite amusing scene!) when they stumble into the book. On the topic of languages, it's probably worth mentioning that the game isn't that difficult to understand; with two years of college-level Japanese under my belt, I was able to read most of the kanji, and those I didn't know I was able to catch as most of the game's lines (aside from narration and Madoka's lines) are fully-voiced. The only time I had some difficulty was when they started reading the Universe of the Four Gods. Talk about a lot of unfamiliar kanji!
If you know Japanese, though, you shouldn't have any problems getting through the choices and winning the heart of your chosen seishi. The first option I had in the game was 1. cling to him 2. tell him thanks 3. be wary. If all the choices are this easy to figure out, this game should be a cinch! (Some dating sims I've played have had some real trick questions, but so far, this doesn't seem to be one of them.)
I'm rather ambivalent to Madoka's character thusfar (it's pretty hard to describe her, but so far she's come across as the damsel in distress archetype), but Misaki is simply amazing. She's smart, assertive, nice, and a little stubborn. In the beginning of the game when she and Misaki arrive in the world, they are almost immediately attacked by gangsters; while the two girls try to run for awhile, it's Misaki that insists (much to the reluctance of Madoka) that she run off, and promises that they'll meet again soon. While Madoka makes her escape, Misaki holds the thugs off. Of course, this act of extreme heroism makes me wish that I was playing Misaki instead of Madoka. I like girls who take initiative!
So far, though, it's been pretty generic in terms of gameplay; if you've played any similar dating sim (Jin-Bo-Cho comes to mind), it's really similar. And while there are many things that are the same as the original story so far, there's plenty of things that are different, and I'm not sure that a person who doesn't have at least a rudimentary grasp of the Japanese language could really enjoy it. There's lots of narration and dialogue to slog through, and even in your native language, a dating sim can get pretty tedious. Especially when you don't face a lot of choices (and in this game, there hasn't been a ton so far).
Any other thoughts I have while playing the game I'll add here later.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask in comments. |

RP, anyone? Hey, all! I'm Lina, sixteen years old and I love Watase Yuu. Her style is absolutely gorgeous, and she does, shoujo, which gets me every time. =] Anyway, a couple years ago I was an admin on an FY RP site, which over the past few months finally died out. However, yesterday I stumbled across a brand-new FY RP that promises to be amazing, and since I'm excited to have the chance to write FY again, I'd love for as many people to join as possible. So I'm now presenting ( WHITE LIGHTS ) !> |

Has anyone played Fushigi Yuugi: Suzaku Ibun?
I haven't seen any reviews for it or even discussion about it other than a few images and a little shared information (mostly on the new voice actors) prior to the game's release. I ordered a copy of the Limited Edition (and surprisingly, even got the preorder Seiryuu Bonus Audio CD despite not having preordered it!) a few weeks ago, but I'm not able to play it until my Japanese system comes in Wednesday.
Does anyone have any thoughts/tips/reviews of the game? Additionally, has anyone played the Genbu Kaiden game? I'm tempted to order that, too, but since Idea Factory's games have been reputed to be notoriously bad, I figured I'd shuffle through Suzaku Ibun first before making a decision. |

Hey y'all *waves* I was wondering if anyone has the song used in Episode 51 when Hotohori appeared in Miaka's world, the one that starts with a guitar rift (i think). Please, please please... i want it so bad and i don't even know the title. Please? |
